Writings of the Moonstone Universe
Title: The Rose and the Thorn
Rating: PG 13 for appalling language and awful grammar; Thorn isn't stupid, but he has a limited vocabulary.
Summary: A guard's thoughts on life in the court of the Dirah.
Fandom: Original - The Road to Moonstone
Notes: This sprang from a character that pops up in the next chapter. Basically, whilst I was writing Thorn in the next chapter of Moonstone, I was having dreadful difficulty. He was...flat. Insipid. Completely uninspiring. There was little to distinguish him, which was extremely irritating, and he's probably one of the characters I wanted to emphasise the most. I eventually realised the problem wasn't him - it was me. I simply wasn't grasping his character at all. Then two days ago, Thorn popped up, quite politely, and hit me over the head with a very large stick. His character has since gone off in a completely new direction, and this appeared out of nowhere. He's basically started a revolution all on his own, bless him.
